Amanda Grady and Kevin Penney

The two who make it happen.

KEVIN PENNEY (KP) - OWNER AND HEAD BUTCHER

KP has been in the food industry for over a decade. After apprenticing at his local family butcher shop in New Jersey for around 6 years, he moved to Philadelphia to dive into the incredible food scene. Creating KP’s Fine Meats has allowed him to not only serve his city, but play a larger role in the lives of his customers and community.

AMANDA PENNEY- THE BACKBONE

Amanda manages our communications, marketing, strategic initiatives, web store, and all non-butchery things. She’s been by KP’s side since they started this business out of their apartment and wouldn’t have it any other way.

How it all began

Coupling the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions with almost 10 years in the hospitality industry, KP noticed that the demand for exceptional service, high-quality product and the personable charm of a family butcher remained on an upswing. However, layoffs struck and put KP out of his 9-to-5 butcher job in Fairmount, and supply shortages quickly created a gap in the market.

Weeks into unemployment, friends and old customers began reaching out, personally, for quality meat and seafood, as a way to bring some sense of normalcy. As a result, KP began his butcher delivery business out of his and Amanda’s apartment in 2020. Word spread quickly and while the product can speak for itself in regard to quality, the goal was always to give our friends, family, and anyone who was in the market, a dinner to be excited about.

Transitioning Jim’s Meat Market into KP’s Fine Meats — Continuing a 100 year tradition

It has always been about the community. Formerly Jim’s Meat Market at 2329 E Clearfield St in Port Richmond, what became our first brick and mortar shop has been serving the neighborhood since its construction in 1919. We are honored to pay homage and carry on the tradition.
